Snub-nosed Monkeys of China
16D15N
Snub-nosed monkey, (genus Rhinopithecus), also called snub-nosed langur, any of five species of large and unusual leaf monkeys found
in highland forests of SW China and northern Vietnam. And four species of them living in exclusively outside the tropics, inhabiting the cold mountain forests on south-eastern slopes of the
Tibetan plateau in China.
Snub-nosed monkeys are mostly tree-living, but will come to the ground occasionally to search for wild onions and to eat grass. They have a broad, short face with wide-set slanting eyes and a short, flat nose with forward-facing nostrils. In winter and early spring, when food becomes more scarce, these large gatherings split up into smaller groups of 60 - 70 animals.
